Community Archaeology North CIC
is a Community Interest Company, a not-for-profit organisation whose purpose is to benefit and provide opportunities for people living in the communities within which we work. We organise and run archaeology-focused activities and projects working closely with local history and community groups and schools.
The CIC is run by our team of experienced professional archaeologists Kathryn Murphy, Dr Jane Harrison and Sarah Miles. We have extensive experience in the commercial, academic research and community archaeology sectors. We are passionate about public engagement in archaeology and local history and the value of heritage activities for promoting emotional wellbeing.
Community Archaeology North CIC grew out of the Appleton Area Archaeological Research Project (AAARP) Charitable Trust. We have a proven track record over more than 15 years of running long-term archaeology research projects embedded in local communities. We work across the UK with a particular research expertise in Northumberland, Orkney and Oxfordshire.
We aim to involve diverse members of communities in all aspects of our projects helping people to engage with and understand their heritage, build community cohesion and promote personal development and wellbeing. We are committed to prompt and regular publication of our research in academic journals and in formats accessible to non-specialists.
